FAQs about visa support in Russia.
Immediately contact your Visa Sponsor if any problems with your visa have occurred. This is the organization (or individual) that invited you to Russia and whose name is listed in your visa. In accordance with Russian laws, only your Visa Sponsor can solve your visa problems at the local department of Federal Migration Service (FMS, formerly PVS) of the Russian Ministry or Internal Affairs. This is why you will want to make sure that the inviting company has an office in Russia (in the city where you are planning to stay) and that you know how to contact them.

Important: There may be a more effective solution in each specific case. Contact a specialist to find out.

If you could not find the answer to your question here, please feel free to contact us. You may also reach us by phone or E mail. We will do our best to help you.

1. I cannot contact my Visa Sponsor.
Probably your Visa Sponsor was a fictitious company. Try to find a reliable company that can help you.

2. Visa Sponsor is located in another city.
As a rule, if the Visa Sponsor is unable to register your visa in the city where you are staying, you should:
• try to register your visa in a hotel; or
• find a local reliable company, able to help you; or
• avoid being stopped by the police.

3. My Visa Sponsor company refuses to help.
Probably your Visa Sponsor has too many of its own problems. It is practically impossible to force a Visa Sponsor company to help you. Try to find a reliable company that can help you and ask your present Visa Sponsor to provide you with a request to transfer all obligations to the new company that is willing to work out your visa problems.

4. My visa was not registered within 3 working days upon arrival to Russia.
For registration of your visa after 3 days from your arrival your Visa Sponsor should bring to AFMS the notification card for foreigners with the passport information of the owner of the apartment where you stay, the full address and the phone number; it will be necessary to pay state fee and penalty 2000 - 5000 RUR in Militia for breaking the visa rules.
If for some reasons you can not get your visa registered try to avoid meeting militia people at the streets because you may be obliged to pay penalty of up to 2000 - 5000 RUR for breaking the visa regulations and waste a lot of time and efforts solving the problem.

5. AFMS refuses to register my visa.
Probably your Visa Sponsor has it own problems with AFMS. Try to register the visa in a hotel or ask your Visa Sponsor to help you find someone who can help.

6. I am going to leave, but my visa has not been registered.
If your visa was not registered for 3 working days after arrival, you can be obliged to pay penalty being stopped by militia in the city 2000 - 5000 RUR, but it will not create problems in crossing the border because now the stamp is not being put in your passport.

7. I have to change something in my visa.
It is not possible to make any correction in the visa when you are already in Russia.

8. I want to extend my visa.
Normally, Russian visas can be extended only in extreme cases.
As an exception, a visa can be extended for a few days. Your Visa Sponsor should present to AFMS: your passport with visa, travel ticket with a fixed departure date, a letter requesting extension, and pay a state fee.
In some cases, it may be possible to extend your visa in the Consular office at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, or Pulkovo Airports.

9. My visa has expired.
You will not be able to leave Russia. You have to extend your visa or get an exit visa. Your Visa Sponsor should present to AFMS: your passport with visa, two photos (in the case of an exit visa) and a travel ticket with a fixed departure date, a letter of request, pay a state fee, and a pay a fine to the police for infringement of the visa regime.
In some cases, it may be possible to extend your visa in the Consular office at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, or Pulkovo Airports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can also issue a Return-Home Certificate based on a diplomatic note from the Embassy or Consulate of your native country. With this Certificate you do not need an exit visa and can leave Russia within 10 days.

10. My passport and visa were lost or stolen.
You can get a new passport only at the Embassy or Consulate of your native country.
Usually it is impossible to replace a visa, so you will need an exit visa instead. The Visa Sponsor should present to AFMS your passport, two photos, travel ticket with the fixed departure date, letter of request and pay a state fee. In addition, it is necessary to obtain from the local police station a report stating that your passport and visa were lost.

Important:
• for ease of processing we recommend the police report to state that your documents were lost, not stolen;
• submit a copy of your visa and passport;
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can also issue a Return-Home Certificate based on a diplomatic note from the Embassy or Consulate of your native country. With this Certificate you do not need an exit visa and can leave Russia within 10 days.

11. I am stopped by the police.
If your visa is not registered - you will have to pay a fine (up to 2000 - 5000 Rubles).
It is possible that the policeman will act unprofessionally. Try to explain to him, that your visa was registered in due time, or that three working days from the moment of your arrival in this city of Russia have not passed yet (show a travel ticket, etc.)
In other cases, try to contact your Visa Sponsor as soon as possible and ask for help.

12. I am not allowed to leave Russia at passport control.
You will be informed of the reason. It is possible that:
• your visa has expired;
• the arrival stamp in your passport (visa, Migration Card or Arrival/Departure Card) is not correct;
• something else is wrong with your passport, visa, Migration Card or Arrival/Departure Card.

Important: the absence of visa registration, as a rule, is not an obstacle for leaving Russia
Contact your Visa Sponsor for help.
If you are departing Russia from Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, or Pulkovo Airports, it is possible to appeal for help from the Consular office there.

13. I cannot find a Russian organization that can help.
Contact the Embassy or the Consulate of your country and request a diplomatic note to be submitted on your behalf to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia with the request to issue you an exit visa or Return-Home Certificate.
